‘Witnesses’ - Swimmingpool The Band

So far the follow up to “Physical” has been much more percussive. This song is a great example of that. The beat you hear is sampled from me hitting the couch, my thighs and banging a dunkin donuts cup filled with ice. The rhythm seems to create something much more urgent than my previous pieces.

Similarly, It seems to, at least to me, have a more accessible feel to it. Not sure in what way beyond the fact that there’s minimal droning in the piece at all. This isn’t the case for the whole album (as I’m already 25 minutes into it), but it stands out here and in one other song.

Beyond that, all of the instruments, mostly guitars and heavy clarinets at the end, are played by me. Vocally, the two parts sound rough separate but, when together, as it is here, came out rather smoothly.

I’m walking line with the album title. Both of my options were inspired by a talk I had with my illustrious brother divespell (who you should follow). It’ll either be ‘Milagros’ or ‘Triple Fantasy’. (feel free to give me your input, but definitely follow divespell)

Lyrically it’s fairly straightforward. Put into it whatever you want when relating to the theme of escape (something fairly obvious in the whole of this collection).

To download the song, the link is above. The lyrics are below. I hope you enjoy!

Lock the windows
leave the TV on.
Make it seem like there is someone home.

Come to the garage.
Load up the car
before it gets dark.

This is it
This is the cut-off
From here on out
We are pushing our luck.

Don’t leave any notes.
Don’t make it look rushed.
Don’t leave anything for anyone.

Leave the pictures in their frames
on the windowsill.
Take the phone off the hook.
