“Stephen” - Swimmingpool The Band

Of the songs off of Milagros, Stephen has to be the most unique in that it’s the only instrumental piece. Initially, this was supposed to be another vocally driven song. Mid way though the recording process, I was informed of the untimely passing of my friend and fraternal brother, Stephen Sanders (known to the tumblr world as HailSatin).

Broken up is putting how I felt lightly. The lyrics were originally in no way geared towards a mournful ballad. Similarly, it’s always quite difficult to, with words, pay tribute to the passing of a friend. I realized, however, the clarinets alone invoked, almost prophetically, what I felt. I left them as they stood, stripped of most post-production effects. It’s about 8 layers of melodic clarinets and that’s it. No vocals, keys or guitar. I hope you enjoy. This would be track three in the scope of the album.

I’ll post the last remaining song last week along with the link for the entire album.
